we LOVE music

September 7, 2009

twitter prof pic Its been a little too long since we updated the blog! Apologies for that! We have been busy at FM Bookshops, developing a new accounts system that will make accounting easier & more efficient for both us & the customer.

But that’s not all, we have spent a lot of time looking at our music, trying to create a new structure that would be helpful to us & also to our customers. Music is changing, the industry, both secular and Christian is dwindling as far as sales of cds concerned. Online retailers have hacked their prices to get ahead of the rest & downloads have eaten into the figures as well.

There are a million other factors and we could go around in circles trying to solve them. The bottom line is we LOVE music & our solution had to be, to lower ALL of our prices! Plain & simple!

leeland-love-is-on-the-moveOne of our favourite special price offers we have just announced is the new LEELAND album ‘Love is on the Move’ which we are offering at the amazing price of £7.93! Yes, that is cheaper than iTunes and all other retailers in the UK! Buy it from us HERE. There are and will be MANY more great prices on old & new titles! Come & have a look HERE!

We have also launched an in-store magazine called “CONNECT” which will highlight special offers, shop news and promotions. More on that soon!

This BLOG & others

November 11, 2008

Please read for a better understanding of what a Blog actually is & more importantly what this FM Blog is about & who its for..
Blogging

The number of blogs on the internet is doubling every five months, according to blog-tracking site Technorati. The total is now around 20 million, with around 1.3 million posts made each day. Most are no more interesting than overhearing another person’s telephone call, but there are exceptions that can have a remarkable impact. But, lets define the term first; “A blog (a contraction of the term “Web log“) is a Web site, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog” (from wikepedia).
So, a Blog by Faith Mission Bookshops? Why? The initial idea to have a place that site visitors would land on while we prepare the web-site was part of the plan but also the blog will continue once we launch. “Christian Blogs” are everywhere on the internet and i feel strongly that we have an advantage in our favour. Faith Mission sells Christian books, music, card & Gift product, in other words we cater for the “Church” with our product. Now, thats a lot of people! In light of this having a wide range of “Christian” topics on our blog is part of what it takes to build it into something. Providing links to other “Christian” blogs, where appropriate is also a huge part of creating an online community of readers. We need your help & feedback to do all of this though. We will highlight books & music, we will mention “Christian” events/concerts and we will blog about “Church life.” In a nutshell if its “Christian” we might just blog about it.
Got any ideas for us? Thoughts on blogging, or questions? Leave a comment! We know that we are getting traffic regularly on the blog & some of you are actually staying long enough to suggest that you are reading it! So, do say hello & stick around, we would love to “meet” you

Website Update…………

October 15, 2008

As some, if not most of you will know we are in the middle of creating a website for the Faith Mission Bookshops that will enable us to sell product online. Effectively we are opening a new shop in a new location, except not in the traditional sense. It is quite common now for businesses to exist purely as an online entity with no high street presence so we are entering a path thats already well trodden.  So, in light of this fact we face an ongoing challenge in this new area of ministry, we are not attempting to re-invent online bookselling and if you buy books online often then you may even be familiar with a lot of what our site will try to achieve. In a recent press release Gareth Mulholland of Eden.co.uk stated that Range’, ‘Availability’ and ‘Convenience’ were a higher priority to customers than price. A combination of all these factors is hard to achieve and the struggle of having ‘too much’ or ‘too little’ stock is a never ending headache. While every other area of high street bookselling in the UK is finding existence extremely difficult we have had the wonderful blessing of a new shop in Portadown, we have much to be thankful for. The development of our online shop is another new expansion of the Faith Mission name in Ireland and with it we aim to reach further afield. So, it is our hope that we can get the correct balance of ‘range, availability, convenience & pricing’ for our customers, not just so we can expand the business but also so that we can further God’s work in people’s through books, music and most importantly Bibles.

Christian Ministry Online…

September 24, 2008

From the traffic we get here and hope to continue to get i am quite sure Facebook is something most of you have heard of? In recent years the phenomenom for social networking sites has exploded and not without plenty of controversy. There are many risks with leaving so much information about yourself on sites like Facebook, Bebo and Myspace but the benefits for minstry organizations and Churches are becoming endless. The growth of online business and online ministry is part of a huge shift in how the web is being used. It has in essence became a big social networking tool, another world if you like, that operates outside and alongside ‘real life.’ One of the finest examples of taking technology and using it to enhance your ministry is the Mars Hill Church site. They are pushing the boundaries of what a Church can offer online to the world in terms of their sermon content and other resources. On Facebook, a new group for Christians in Ireland that started as an experiment is growing at a rapid pace. Check it out here. Who knows what can come of this level of ‘cyber unity?’ Will it be used for good? That is the hope. In time we, at FM hope to utilize the web to grow our audience and marketplace beyond what we currently are blessed with. Sites like the Mars Hill one help to encourage and also display the possibilities of what we can do. The facebook group and other social networking sites like it are a great way to network with people and promote your cause, whether it be business or ministry. These are some of the reasons why we are stepping out further afield and into the online world to expand our reach.

FUEL09 will, God willing take place in June of next year in Ballymena. FUEL08 was seriously affected by the terrible weather in august, it took place on the dreaded 16th august which was probably the worst day of rainfall i have ever seen in my 30 years! The organizers have already confirmed that David Crowder Band will play at the event which is likely to take place over 2 or more days. Crowder has become one of the best known and popular worship leader/artists over the last few years with his unique blend of musical styles and wonderful songs, he really is not like anyone else in the industry.

So, stay tuned for more info about this, its most likely that our Bookshops will sell tickets to this event. Watch this space! Oh & in the meantime, drop into one of our shops and pick up a Crowder cd!

Living Water : Brother Yun

September 4, 2008

This follow-up book from the author of the bestselling The Heavenly Man shares the vision of one of China’s most dedicated, courageous and intensely persecuted house church leaders. Using the message of the Bible and interweaving it with stories of life-changing faith, Living Water distils the wisdom of this courageous Christian man who suffered intense persecution for his beliefs. Brother Yun challenges Christians to go deeper in their faith, and become bold in their witness for Christ. He shows how God can make you as bold as a lion, and bring your days as a timid Christian to an end. The phenomonal success of his first book has guaranteed that this book would sell well and already it has. So many people have read The Heavenly Man that the popularity of this title is sure to run on to Christmas and beyond so why not drop into your local bookshop and pick one up? On posts where we recommend a product i am going to start adding a bit more detail, as  you will see below. These vital pieces of info will be on our web-shop once we launch and with well known titles like this one its not such a neccessary requirement as all our staff should be aware of a key title like this. However, it can be challenging when a customer comes into the shop and they only know part of the title, or just the author’s name and perhaps the color of the book!! Having an author name and title is always helpful, the ISBN code is invaluable in a book search so where possible we want to make that info available to you.
